The Farmhouse Golf Society: Where Golf and Good Times Tee Off Together

May 14, 2024

If you're picturing a typical golf society—tweed jackets, stern faces, and strict adherence to every rule in the book—let me introduce you to the Farmhouse Golf Society. We’re a group that proudly calls ourselves “a drinking society with a golf problem,” based out of our local pub and more interested in pints and banter than perfect swings.

A Golf Society Born at the Pub

Our society was born over pints at the pub, where the love of a good laugh rivals our love for a good drive. We’re a laid-back bunch, united by our passion for the game and the post-round pint. A bad day on the course doesn’t dampen our spirits, and a good day calls for a few extra rounds (both on the green and at the bar). Our motto has always been simple: enjoy the game, enjoy the company, and let the pub handle the rest.

I help keep things ticking on the digital side—running the website (farmhousegs.co.uk), updating scores, setting up emails, and making sure everyone’s in the loop for our next round. It’s a bit of work, but keeping our small society organised feels as much a part of the tradition as the game itself.

Local Courses, Big Laughs

We play a mix of Surrey and Sussex courses, and each one brings its own charm, its own challenges, and plenty of chances for us to embrace the highs and lows of our games. Whether it's navigating the rough or discovering new ways to find the bunkers, each round brings a memorable mix of half-decent shots, bad lies, and plenty of laughs.

Our website has become a kind of digital clubhouse, where I keep members updated with match reports, upcoming games, and photos from our latest rounds. It’s simple, but it works. We all check in (most of us, anyway—there’s always one member who forgets his email), and we get that buzz going before each round, trading friendly jabs and confirming who’s buying the next pint.

More Than Just Golf

Ultimately, the Farmhouse Golf Society is about more than chasing low scores. It’s a community, a group of mates who enjoy each other’s company as much as the game. Every round ends back at our local pub, our own unofficial “19th hole,” where we rehash the highlights, conveniently forget the lowlights, and toast to another day out on the course.

So, if you’re in Surrey or Sussex and fancy a laugh with a group of golfers who’ll buy you a pint faster than they’ll beat your score, come join us for a round. Just check farmhousegs.co.uk first—there’s bound to be something in the calendar and an email with your name on it, waiting in your inbox. Cheers!
